This is an old revision of the document!
1 Immediately after passing and for several years, the deceased in Japan are termed Hetoke. The individual remains Hetoke until the individual is no longer recognised or remembered personally by members of the house hold. During this period the Hetoke have an intense personal interest and power over family affairs and is likely to return at all souls day in midsummer. Once this period of remembering the deceased for several years or decades has passed the individual becomes merged into the far more featureless mass of the household kami.
All forms of media eventually end up being a repository of the dead. At some point the dead will out number the living in film and audio recordings.
Films shot over 100 years now contain the Hetoke of generations past, – Silver bromide salts - films shot during the world wars contain legions of Hetoke that are still reeking revenge on our households for what our ancestors did or did not do. The problem with media is we are too used to seeing it as a way to pass information around the living and not as a repository for the dead. We could do a 3 day event with 6 invited speculations then a banquet were we eat our ancestors. [gh]
2 if the speculations take the form of 6 group activities with invited/open call participants so becomes geologic also vertical aesthetic of temp. large transmitter and subterranean geophysics to avoid a vision of some horizontal entrapment in wherever - also around what is implied in “repository for the dead”
a four day openlab is planned to amplify thematics found in the relations between death and technology in their widest senses
speculative sessions include, but are not limited to: an exhumation of dead medias; reading the death-logic of positivism's entry in contemporary computation 1); zombies as counterfactuals; [un]dead networks
practical sessions might include the visitation to an [un]dead site to scavenge hz/nT data and its dislocation to other sites; the devising and implementation of a zombie network [jk]
