Press Statement: working draft

Forget insulation from the cold nagging existential doubt or refuge in the stories and questions comforting the general intellect; the exquisite_code fiction-generation project sets about the flux of meaning in a radical constructivist experiment hothousing a collaborative life-novel. Nine international writers, including art Neoist Stewart Home and Leif Elggren, King of Elgaland-Vargaland, will work eight hours a day for five days. Each writer will produce text chunks, written over six minute sessions in response to a set of prompts they have generated at the beginning of each day. At the end of each six minutes bespoke and reconfigurable edit-software will worm through the chunks, adding to a text repository to elaborate the exquisite_code life novel. The edit-software is interrogated and re-written in scheduled code writing sprints by the writers, and all output will be on live display. Hardcopy will continuously spit from line printers, and publication of all code, prompts and final text will be immediately dumped ready for print-on-demand publication. This is an exquisite_code production in collaboration with E:vent Gallery, London, Openmute.org, and supported by Arts Council England.
