crude silicon conductor granule manufacture http://www.rsc.org/education/chemistryteachers/GoToResource.asp?resourceid=11674ticle/2005-10/making-silicon-sand

reactions:

SiO2(s) + 2Mg(s) → 2MgO(s) + Si(s)

2Mg(s) + Si(s) → Mg2Si(s)

MgO(s) + 2HCl(aq) → MgCl2(aq) + H2O(l)

Mg2Si(s) + 4HCl(aq) → 2MgCl2(aq) + SiH4(g)
(Higher silanes such as Si2H6 may also be produced.)

SiH4 (g) + 2O2(g) → SiO2(s) + 2H2O(l)

Propane Torch - A propane torch is a tool for burning the flammable gas propane. The maximum adiabatic flame temperature a propane torch can achieve with air is 2268 kelvins (1995 °C/3623 °F). Some propane torches are also used with a tank of pure oxygen to achieve a flame temperature nearing 3095 kelvins (2820 °C/5110 °F). from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propane_torch

Actual temperatures probably below 1500˚C > heat disappation

Butane torches lower - The maximum adiabatic flame temperature a butane torch can achieve with air is 2243 kelvins (1970 °C/3578 °F).
Consumer air butane torches are often claimed to develop flame temperatures up to approximately 1700 kelvins (1400 °C or 2500 °F). This temperature is high enough to melt many common metals, such as aluminum and copper. from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butane_torch

Microwave smelter (800°C) based on David Reid Technique http://www.periodictable.com/PopSci/2003/09/1/index.html

David Reid Technique (1000°C) http://home.c2i.net/metaphor/mvpage.html and 1200°C kit http://home.c2i.net/metaphor/rt.html - extended tests with various susceptors - materials which heat up when exposed to microwaves - was that two substances, graphite and magnetite, working together were required to achieve the kind of heating we were looking for

Metal Workshop Techniques:
  * Forge - approx. 1500˚C generated. Needs graphite/silica crucible
  * Oxyacetylene gas torch - Needs graphite/silica crucible (heat up to 3000˚C)
  * Plasma cutting - temps. up to 25,000˚C
